The Primary Preschool Program is set in an organized and engaging classroom environment where the children have the opportunity to explore meaningful and challenging work. The students spend time in the classroom working independently and in small groups with Montessori materials that focus on math, science, language, senses, and practical life experiences. The students also spend a large part of the day working outdoors where they engage with the natural environment. The primary preschool program allows students to practice social skills and self-control, regulate emotions through problem solving, build stamina, and grow independently.
The Secondary Preschool Program builds upon the content and learning the children practiced in the primary preschool program. The students begin to focus and work independently on projects over a longer period of time. The teachers set and support independent student goals that include letter and number recognition and writing. The children are exposed to geography and develop maps skills as they learn about different continents, regions, and cultures. Additionally, the children in the secondary preschool program spend several hours a day engaging in creative and “risky” play in a natural wooded environment where the students have the freedom to negotiate roles, practice team-building, and develop higher-order thinking skills.
